Coast Care - Tiaki Takutai
Coast Care Eastern Bay of Plenty is a community partnership programme, which uses local knowledge and enthusiasm to restore the form and function of the dunes in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

Nukuhou Saltmarsh Care Group
The Nukuhou Saltmarsh is located between Whakatāne and Ōpōtiki on Wainui Road.
Members of the group meet on the fist Sunday of the month and volunteer opportunities include bird counts, trap baiting and maintenance, weeding, and planting.

Apanui Saltmarsh Care Group
The Apanui Saltmarsh Care Group hold rubbish clean-up days monthly around the river. Volunteers should meet in the car park on the corner of McAlister & Beach Streets and wear gumboots or suitable footwear. All equipment is provided.

Manawahe Eco Trust
The Manawahe Eco Trust was formed to manage the community’s interest in improving biodiversity in native forest within the Manawahe Ecological Corridor.

Waiewe Stream Care Group
The Waiewe Stream Care Group are restoring the margins of the Waiewe stream, removing exotic weeds such as Taiwan cherry, and replanting with native species such as kowhai.

Whakatāne Bird Rescue Trust
Whakatane Bird Rescue are a small group of volunteers who care for sick and injured birds. They help all kind of birds, native, seabird, non native, bird of prey etc.
Whakatāne Kiwi Trust
The Whakatāne Kiwi Trust was set up in 2006 as a charitable trust to promote and protect kiwi in the Whakatāne area.
Volunteer opportunities include pest control and trapping, wasp control, kiwi monitoring, kiwi call listening, bird monitoring and survey, education, guiding, leadership and management, fundraising, and catering.
