After being lost and forgotten about for years, the Whakatane District Council stormwater detention tank in Otarawairere has been rediscovered! This was installed after the 2004 floods. The area has been neglected over the years, and it's now time to give it a spruce up. Whakatane District Council has supplied 300 plants to revegetate the area, and volunteers are needed to assist Forest and Bird over two days to give this area some love.
When: Saturday 19 June with 2 sessions – 9.30am-12 noon and from 1.00 -3.30 pm
A second planting day will be held on Saturday 3 July.
Where: 133 Otarawairere Rd (on the left by the roundabout).
What to bring: a spade or other favourite digging tool, sturdy footwear as the ground is very uneven, good gardening gloves, a water bottle and any snacks you need to keep going.
We would love to see you there!
(This event is not organised by HALO Whakatane, contace Forest and Bird for any enquires)
